Charles Watson "Abandoned Buick"
In 1952, after 18 years of silence, the Kilauea volcano of Hawaii came alive. The eruptions caused lava fountain’s over 240 metres in height and lasted 136 days.
Further volcanic activity continued throughout the 50’s, capped by an enormous eruption in 1960 - when the lava flow overran the evacuated communities surrounding it.
Following the events of 1960, Kilauea’s eruptive activity become nearly continuous. A state of activity that remains today.
